Environmental management in our factories is consistent and transparent

All Atria's production facilities have an operating system in place, which includes the requirements of the ISO 14 001 environmental system and the ISO 50 001 energy management system standards.

Compliance is monitored by the environmental protection authorities in each business area’s country of operation. The authorities monitor compliance with the permit conditions, such as emissions limits. For example in terms of chemicals, Atria’s operations in Finland are monitored by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), and plant safety is monitored by the fire and rescue authorities.

Our short-term goal hase been to reduce the carbon footprint of our own industrial production by 25 percent by 2025 compared to 2016 levels.
This target was already reached in 2020, when emissions were 27% lower than in 2016. The reduction was due to the increased use of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, and bio-based fuels in heat production.

The current energy efficiency agreement period in Finland runs from 2017 to the end of 2025. Accordingly, Atria is committed to increasing its energy efficiency by 7.5% from the 2015 level. Efficiency measures have progressed as planned.

Reducing food waste effectively reduces the environmental impact of the entire food chainAtria’s internal waste management aims to improve value creation for material flows suitable for food production. Successful product and packaging development prevents food waste during the distribution and manufacturing phase.

We always develop the most optimal solutions for our products, taking into account the overall environmental impact of the packaged product. Baseline is that the size and shape of the packaging serve both the customer's needs in the store and the consumer's needs at home. Good packaging helps to reduce food waste.

Atria’s environmental and energy management systems are certified. A certified management system provides third-party assurance of a proactive approach to environmental protection, energy efficiency and other statutory requirements, as well as stakeholders’ requirements. The system is the management’s tool for the systematic development of the company’s own operations.

We report Atria Group's environmental efficiency performance in the Corporate Responsibility Report annually in terms of water and energy consumption, energy efficiency, as well as carbon footprint and wastewater quality.
